New Delhi: Three Kashmir-based journalists were among 37 others who were conferred with Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards 2016 at a function held in New Delhi on Wednesday, November 2.
The awards were given away by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was the chief guest for the event.
Ashwaq Masoodi working for Livemint was awarded for Uncovering India Invisible. Aamir Rafiq Peerzada, who hails from Onagam village in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district and works for NDTV was awarded for on the spot reporting whereas Burhan Kinu working as photographer for Hindustan Times was awarded in photojournalism category.
The biggest annual event in the Indian media calendar, Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards acknowledge exceptional work across 28 categories in print, broadcast and online journalism in English, Hindi and regional languages. Instituted by the Ramnath Goenka Foundation in 2005 to celebrate the legacy of the founder of The Indian Express Group, the awards recognise excellence in journalism and showcase outstanding contributions by individuals each year.
