New Delhi: Saurabh Kumar Sharma, ex-joint secretary of JNU Students’ Union and a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) wrote a letter to the University VC leveling serious allegations against students of Aligarh Muslim University of being involved in pistol episode which was recovered from the JNU campus.
On Monday, November 7, a pistol, seven cartridges and a screw driver were found in an abandoned bag on the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in the early hours. The pistol and cartridges were spotted by a security guard at 2 a.m. The guard immediately alerted his seniors, who informed the police.
The copy of letter has also been submitted to SHO, Vasant Kunj police station.
“Last night (November 6) there was a delegation from AMU that visited our campus late in the night. The visits could be one of the opening links in the whole story behind the recovery of arms within a few hours after they gained entry into the campus,” alleged Sharma, a PhD student at the University, in his letter.
The ABVP member also asked JNU authorities to keep a check on the involvement of outsiders in the affairs of JNU. In his letter, he added, “especially when there has been a large influx of students from AMU and Jamia since Oct 14, followed by a series of secret and open meetings by such students inside our campus.”
Repeated attempts to reach SHO Vasant Kunj and AMUSU President, Faizul Hasan for their side of versions didn’t materialise as our calls remained unanswered.
Importantly, according to a news report carried in The Hindu, senior police officers said that they have not found any link between the recovered items and the missing JNU student Najeeb.
