Aligarh: With an aim to bring Kashmiri students in national mainstream, Aligarh based non government organization ‘SOCH – beyond the imagination’ has launched a scholarship especially for Kashmiri students studying in Aligarh Muslim University.
The scholarship, named after Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, can be availed by Kashmiri students pursuing technical and academic courses in AMU.
“Sir Syed Ahmad Khan had launched his movement to educationally empower masses in far flung areas of country. SOCH has launched Sir Syed Scholarship for Kashmiri students to carry on his educational mission and to pay him true tributes,” said SOCH president, Dr. Saleem Mohammad Khan.
Amood Gulzar, the J&K head of SOCH, is a resident of Tangmarg in northern Kashmir, who is pursuing masters in commerce from the Aligarh Muslim University. He is the brain behind the scholarship scheme for Kashmiri students conceived by the NGO.
“Since last two years, SOCH volunteers have been visiting schools across valley to aware students about scholarship and other educational schemes as well as career counseling and we realized that there was need for intervention in education by non government organisations.
So we came up with this scholarship program this year,” Amood Gulzar told Twocircles.net
According to Gulzar, this year scholarship will be only available for AMU students and from next year the scholarship can be availed by all the Kashmiri students studying outside J&K.
“We are creating resources and we want to help as many students we can,” he added.
