Aligarh: To mark Sir Syed Bicentenary celebrations in 2017, two significant Commemorative Volumes on Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the great visionary and the founder of the Aligarh Muslim University, have recently been published.
Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Chairman, Sir Syed Bicentenary Celebrations Committee said that these volumes in English and Urdu will provide an excellent opportunity to gain or renew acquaintance with the life-ennobling thought and message of Sir Syed. He added that another volume on Sir Syed in Hindi is due to come out soon.
Professor Kidwai confirmed that these volumes will be released under the auspices of Sir Syed Academy, AMU, as part of Sir Syed Bicentenary Celebrations.
The commemorative volume in English entitled, ‘Sir Syed Ahmad Khan: Muslim Renaissance Man of India (New Delhi, Viva Books, 2016),’ which is edited by Prof Kidwai, has articles on Sir Syed and South Asian Islam by Prof David Lelyveld, Dr Hafeez Malik, Dr Barbara Metcalf, Dr Charles M Ramsey, Dr Robert Ivermee and Dr Christian W Troll.
The book also contains articles by Prof Syed Asim Ali, Dr Gordon Campbell, Dr Mohibul Haq, Dr Amina Hoti, Dr Mazhar Husain, Dr Gulfishan Khan, Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Professor Shafey Kidwai, Professor Iftikhar H Malik, Professor Shan Muhammad, Dr Geoffrey Nash and Dr Ataullah Siddiqui.
Professor F A Nizami, Director, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, UK has contributed Foreword to the Volume.
Meanwhile, Mohd Nasir Khan and Mr Farooq Argali, Farid Book Depot, New Delhi brought out a comprehensive, rather historic special issue of Jahan-e-Kutub, Sir Syed Number in Urdu. It contains scores of articles by leading scholars on Sir Syed’s multifaceted genius and a selection of articles by Sir Syed and poems on AMU.
