Imphal : Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Sunday said that appropriate action will be taken against those responsible for the violence in Manipur.
Rijiju, who arrived here on a visit, was referring to the violence last Monday in the state’s Ukhrul district where even Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Home Minister Gaikhangam and others had to turn back without inaugurating the district hospital and other facilities after a sniper injured an India Reserve Battalion trooper. A day prior, a bomb was also detonated at the venue of the public function injuring one personnel.
Ibobi, Gaikhangam and others have claimed that the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), which has on ceasefire agreement with the Union government, was behind the violence.
Rijiju however said that appropriate action would be taken up once a full report is received, while also appealing for peaceful co-existence among the communities.
Taking a swipe at the 15-year-old Congress government in Manipur, he said that if there had been proper governance, the state would have prospered.
