Mumbai: In order to promote research in Islamic studies, the Centre for Study of Society and Secularism (CSSS), an organization founded by late Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer has announced scholarship in Islamic studies for young researchers.
Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer, an Indian reformist-writer and social activist founded CCCS in 1993. As a tribute to its founder, the organization named this fellowship after his name. The fellowship will be awarded to one post-graduate student with outstanding research skills and records.
CSSS is calling scholars working on the below-mentioned research areas to apply for the award of fellowship:
i) Liberation Theology in Islam
ii) Islam and Gender Justice
iii) Sufi Islam
iv) Feminist readings of Islam
v) Reforms within the Islamic World
vi) Secularism and Islam
vii) Islam and Democracy
viii) Emerging Challenges within Islam
ix) Islam and Inter- Faith Engagement
x) Islam and Human Rights
xi) Islam and Doctrines of Peace
xii) Environment, climate change and Islam
xiii) Gender diversity and Islam
xiv) Islam and concept of compassion and mercy
Applicants are asked to send letters to [email protected] before September 30, 2016 accompanying a statement of purpose not exceeding 500 words describing the topic the applicant wishes to pursue and the reasons for the same.
Scholars belonging to weaker sections of society, women and those who are differently abled/physical challenged will be given preference.
The selected candidate will be given fellowship amount of Rs. 25,000 per month for a period of one year. The continuation of fellowship for another year will be decided after evaluation of the work done during the first year.
