Kashmiri student elected president of MANUU Student Union

Hyderabad: Tajamul Islam, a Kashmiri student has been elected as the President of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) Student Union. He is the first Kashmiri to have won this election.

The students at MANUU voted on Thursday for the fifth election of the University’s student body. Tajamul Islam who is pursuing PhD in English at MANUU was elected President while Arshad Alam and Shahid Jamal from the business management department were elected to the posts of vice-president and treasurer.

Mohammad Ammar Azam of the education department was elected secretary and Muhammed Ali K of English department named unopposed as Joint Secretary.

Speaking to TOI the newly elected president of the Union said that regionalism was a problem at the varsity campus which he said is unhealthy. Batting for unity, he said, “My Kashmir to Kanyakumari call served as a connect in the campus. This is against regionalism,” he said.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz and Registrar Dr. Mohammad Shakeel Ahmad congratulated the newly elected office bearers.
