New Delhi : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Somnath Bharti was on Thursday arrested on charges of damaging a fence at the AIIMS here and misbehaving with its security guards, police said.
Bharti was taken into custody from his residence and taken to the Hauz Khas police station. The AAP leader, a former law minister, has denied the allegations.
Police registered an FIR against Bharti and his supporters on September 11 following a complaint from the Chief Security Officer of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, R.S. Rawat.
Rawat alleged that Bharti, around 9.45 a.m. on September 9, “provoked (a) mob to damage the fence of government property (AIIMS)”.
Rawat added that Bharti gave permission to unauthorized persons with JCB machines to get access inside the AIIMS and also misbehaved with security personnel.
The complaint said six security personnel were injured while trying to intervene.
Bharti and his supporters were booked for rioting with deadly weapons, obstructing public servants as well as assaulting or using criminal force against public servants.
