The CBI court on Tuesday discharged retired police officer DG Vanzara and MN Dinesh in Sohrabuddin Shaikh encounter case, taking the total number of discharged people in the case to 15.
Yesterday, the court rejected the discharge plea of two Rajasthan police officers Himanshu Singh and Shyam Singh Charan. Prior to this, the CBI court had also discharged BJP national president Amit Shah in the same case. One of the prime accused in the fake encounter cases of Ishrat Jahan, Sohrabuddin Shaikh and Tulsi Prajapati, DG Vanzara came out on bail in February 2015. He spent around seven and half years in imprisonment, after being arrested on April 24, 2007.
Vanzara was stationed as DCP in Ahmedabad crime branch when Mumbra-based Ishrat Jahan, Javed Shaikh aka Pranesh Pillai, Amajdali Akbarali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed in an encounter by Gujarat Police in the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.
Contrary to the Police claim that victims were Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives, CBI took over the probe from SIT and said that so-called encounter was staged. CBI also added that encounter was jointly organised by city crime branch and Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB).
In the recent past, Vanzara has revealed that he is planning to contest 2017 Gujarat assembly elections, but hasn’t revealed more about where he will be contesting from.
