Aligarh: As the entire Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus from trees to roads got covered with posters, pamphlets and scribbles related to AMU Students Union (AMUSU) and University Court elections; the candidates contesting for various AMUSU posts delivered their final speeches on the topic, ‘Politicization of Educational Institution: boon or bane’at the University’s Union Hall.
The event ahead of the polls had speeches by AMUSU Presidential candidates, Abu Bakr (PhD), Ajay Singh (BALLB) and Mashkoor Ahmad Usmani (BDS).
Aijaz Ahmad (PhD), Faisal Nadeem (M Com), Rao Faraz Waris (M Tech), Sajad Subhan Rather (PhD), Vaseel K (PhD) and Vikrant Johari (MFC) delivered speeches as Vice President candidates.
Adnan Aamir (BALLB), Imran Khan (MCA), Mohd Fahad (MAEBM), Syed Atif Wasfi (BALLB) and Yasir Ali Khan ((PhD) gave speeches for the posts of Honorary Secretary.
It may be noted that 33 candidates are contesting for AMUSU cabinet and 28 students from various faculties have stood for University Court membership.
While presiding over the function, Prof Ali Ameer (Former AMUSU President) spoke on AMU’s tradition and culture. “The Sherwani and Topi (Traditional cap) worn by AMUSU office bearers symbolize University’s distinctive culture, which is free from any kind of political influence,” said Prof Ameer.
He urged the candidates to maintain discipline and help the University administration to conduct polls in an exemplary manner.
Dr Shareeq Aqeel conducted the programme. Mr Mujib Ullah Zuberi, Chief Election Officer, AMUSU/Court , and Prof Sayyid Ahsan were also present on the occasion.
The polling for AMUSU Office bearers and representatives of University Court is scheduled to be held on December 11, 2017 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the respective faculties.
