New Delhi, (IANS): The BJP on Thursday said the results of the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls were an answer to those who have been opposing demonetisation and asserted that the result would be repeated in five states where assembly polls are being held.
Putting up its best ever show in the BMC elections, the BJP bagged 81 seats, just three short of Shiv Sena.
“The results are a stamp of approval from the people on the Narendra Modi government’s pro-poor and welfare schemes. This is an answer to all those who opposed and criticised demonetisation,” said senior BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.
“The results will be repeated in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Manipur as well as in Punjab,” said Javadekar as he went on to ridicule the Congress which ended a distant third.
“This is the end of the Congress and the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party). This is another step towards India becoming Congress free,” said the Minister.
Javadekar also said the results were an answer to the Shiv Sena which was its ally in the 227-member BMC for over two decades.
“They had ridiculed saying we will not even win 30 seats but bagging nearly three times that number we have proved our mettle,” said Javadekar about BJP’s former ally Shiv Sena.
