Panna (Madhya Pradesh), (IANS): Succumbing to stress due to a loan he could not repay, threats from a money lender and destroyed crops, another farmer has committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh.
Police said Prahlad Patel, 35, of Kaikara village in Panna district ended his life on Monday by hanging himself. A suicide note was found at the spot.
Police officer G.S. Vajpayee told IANS that in the suicide note Patel had written that he had borrowed Rs 5,000 from an Ajju Khan who was demanding Rs 2 lakh — 40 times the principal amount — in return.
Khan threatened to harm Patel if he failed to pay up, the suicide note said. Police have filed a case against Khan for abetment of suicide.
Farmers in the state staged protests from June 1 to 10 in support of waiver of farm loans and reasonable price for their produce.
