“This Lake had many more Willow trees before and was cleaner, all this little dirt comes through streams from Srinagar.” Says Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of Bandipora, about the Wular Lake.

“I hope you had come here after Ramadan , on Eid preferably,” he adds while giving a big grin. “Eid is celebrated Lavishly, maybe not like in the city of Srinagar. The day is all about mahman nawazi (treating guests with respect) and being good to relatives and neighbours. We celebrate it collectively, our whole village. It feels so good to eat so much food after fasting for a whole month.” He said while laughing loudly.
