Madani, the president at Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, was addressing a gathering over an ‘atmosphere of fear’ which is sparked by the recent cow-vigilance activities.

He further said, “it’s a call from last 50 years to declare the cow as a national animal. But delaying this decision has given a free hand to Gau-rakshaks who not only beat people and snatch money from them, but they also kill them.”

“We respect the religion and concerned sentiments of our Hindu brethren and no one is allowed to disrupt the peace and take law into hands,” said Madani.

Coming over to the issue of Triple Talaq, he said, “Talaq is a religious matter and it can only have a religious solution. However, we respect the Supreme Court and whatever the decision comes, we will accept that.”

The issue of Triple Talaq is likely to get Supreme Court’s decision tomorrow.

“Supreme Court should let Ulemas, Islamic scholars and clerics decide the solution over Triple Talaq before intervening into the matter. Then the Court may consider those solutions or recommendations and give solutions. That judgment, which will be based upon religious interpretation, will be accepted to us,” he added.

He talked about the propaganda over Talaq and said, “Like the way few media houses are propagating the issue, from that it seems that Talaq is being practiced in every house of Muslims and each Muslim man is having four-five wives.”

Referring to Assam high court’s decision on citizenship in Assam, Madani said, “The matter was ended way back in 1985, but some communal forces have rejuvenated the issue. It has created a situation where 4.8 million married women have come on the verge of losing their citizenship.”
