n an attempt to invert or modify social schemes launched by the Akhilesh Yadav government, the UP government is set to end the 20% minority quota in about 85 schemes related to social welfare and rural development.
This is not first decision taken by the new UP government to counter the schemes of Akhilesh Yadav’s government. Prior to this, the Yogi government denied distribution of ration cards that were printed with photos of Akhilesh Yadav. The word ‘Samajwadi’ was scrapped from various schemes of government and instead ‘Mukhymantri’ was added.
Samajwadi Awas Yojna, a housing scheme for poor people launched by Akhilesh Yadav, was also ended by Yogi government without any apparent explanation.
Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “We are in the process of reviewing all the schemes. We will continue those which we consider important but others will be scrapped.”
The decision, which is not official yet, is being seen in line with that decision of Bhartiya Janta Party to end ‘caste and religion based politics’ in the state.
