Najeeb Ahmad case: University officer in tussle with CBI as it reached hostel with notice

By Siddhant Mohan, TwoCircles.net

In a rather strange episode on Tuesday night, one University official from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) landed in a tussle with CBI officials when they reached Periyar hostel of the University for questioning in Najeeb’s disappearance case.

According to the University students, CBI reached Periyar hostel of the campus around 7 pm on Tuesday to question 9 accused students in the case pertaining to the mysterious disappearance of Najeeb Ahmad.

When CBI tried to enter into the hostel, they were stopped by hostel warden Buddha Singh. Buddha Singh allegedly stopped the CBI officials by telling that they could not question by entering the hostel premises. Buddha told CBI that of they want to question the students, Bureau will have to call them to the office.

Even when CBI threatened Singh of using force against him for “interfering in investigation”, Singh was reluctant to deviate from his position.

As this drama lasted for more than 60 minutes, CBI called Police inside the campus to arrest Singh and other protesters. Singh was quick enough to flee the scene before the arrival of police. Also, when CBI team reached inside the hostel, it found the accused students were not there.

One of the students present at the scene told TwoCircles.net, “Buddha Singh basically used the pretext of protesting for providing time to accused students to flee the hostel. While he was engaged with the CBI officials here, the students fled the hostel.” The allegation against Singh might sound correct because when Police reached the rooms of the students – and not just in Periyar hostel – no one was present there.

In turn, CBI officials have posted notices on the room doors of the accused students – who allegedly belong to Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad – to appear on or before October 25, 2017.

The next day, seven of these nine students appeared before the chief metropolitan magistrate Deepal Sherawat following the summons issued against them, while two were represented by their counsel. These students are in the suspicion to be linked with the mysterious disappearance of Najeeb Ahmad on October 15, 2016, from his hostel.

CBI had submitted a plea for doing a lie-detection test of nine accused students in the same case.

Last week, Delhi High Court lashed out at CBI for taking the case “non-seriously”, and raised many questions on the way of working on investigation agency. The court’s remark followed a habeas corpus filed by Fatima Nafees, mother of Najeeb Ahmad, who showed dissatisfaction with administrative progress in the investigation.

However, when reached for comments on his activities, Buddha Singh said, “This allegation is totally wrong. Anyone here cannot interfere in the legislative activities of the court.”

Singh, in turn, raised the allegations to the students out of nowhere saying, “There are certain elements in the University who are trying to malign my name. And not my name, they’re trying to malign the name of the University.” Singh quickly turned to the accused students and said, “They went to the court next day. How can someone say that they or we were interfering with the investigation.”

Earlier in this episode, Singh’s name came in light when JNU authority conducted a “raid” into Periyar hostel last week under the alleged guidance of Singh.
