IUML National General Secretary and Member of Parliament P.K Kunhalikkutty in his condolence message called Kalignar M. Karunanidhi a true champion of secular politics in India.
Karuanidhi considered IUML’s founding leader “Quaid-e-Millat” Muhammad Ismail Sahib as one of his mentors in politics. He always maintained a hearty relation with the Muslim League through his life. The image of him breaking down in hospital on Quaid-e-Millat’s demise will never fade away. He always maintained cordial and hearty relations with IUML’s leaders in Tamil Nadu as well as the great leaders of the party including G.M Banatwala, C.H Muhamad Koya and E Ahamed. I was told by his family members that he was recovering when I visited him recently in the Chennai hospital. But, he has left us today leaving behind a great legacy.
He has left us at a time our national politics is at a crucial juncture. He was one of the great leaders of our time who had foreseen such a juncture in Indian politics and built resistance movement decades ago. He will be a great source of inspiration for us to resist any attempt to reduce our India of diversity to a “one-culture”, “one-language” country. His demise is equally painful for IUML as it is for the DMK and the people of Tamil Nadu, said PK. Kunhalikkutty MP.
