Seven AIMIM candidates win elections in Telangana, No Muslim candidate from Congress only one from TRS

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) secured a landslide victory in the state with 87 seats, regaining power for the second time in Telangana. Of the 119 seats, Congress has bagged number two position with just 22 seats while BJP has won just one seat.

AIMIM won seven of the eight constituencies contested and these seven are the only Muslim MLAs from Telangana who have won the elections. There are no Muslim winners from either the Congress and only one from TRS. Therefore the representation of Muslims in the  Telangana assembly remains more or less the same.

The 7 candidates of AIMIM are:

Akbaruddin Owaisi from Chandrayangutta who secured 95,339 votes won by majority 80,264;

Mohd Moazam Khan from Bahadurpura won 96,993 votes won by majority 82518;

Mumtaz Ahmed Khan from Charminar got 53,808 votes majority won by 32,586

Jaffar Hussain from Nampally with 57,940 votes won by 9675;

Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala from Malakpet won with 53,281 votes closely followed by another Muslim candidate Md Muzaffar Ali Khan from Telugu Desam Party ;

Kausar Mohiuddin from Karwan with 85,401 votes winning by 49,692 votes

Syed Ahmed Pasha Qadri from Yakutpura won with 69,595 votes majority by 46,978

The only candidate pitched by AIMIM who could not win is Mirza Rahmat Baig from Rajendranagar who could get only 4,224 votes. He lost to Tolkanti Prakash Goud of the TRS who won by a margin of 30,569 votes.

AIMIM have retained the 7 seats they had won in the previous elections. While the lone Muslim MLA from TRS Shakil Aamir Mohammed who won with 74,895 votes has also retained his seat. He contested from Bodhan in Nizamabad.

A jubilant AIMIM Party president Asaduddin Owaisi informed the press hours after the results were declared that his party is ready to merge with TRS and work for the betterment of Telangana State and that of the nation. He also said that the victory of TRS and of AIMIM proves that there is an alternative to Congress and BJP.

In an interview to news channel ” News 18″ Owaisi has said, ” I will never, in my life time, see a political party getting 280 seats and definitely Mr Modi and his party has squandered this huge mandate.”

KCR, leader of TRS now ready to form government for the second time also voiced the same thoughts about working hand in hand with AIMIM. He added that he now wants to participate in national politics.
