In yet another positive news from Kashmir, multiple students from across the Valley secured admissions to the prestigious IITs and BITS engineering colleges. The students who made it to IITs include Yawar Altaf, Raja Fida and Mehrajuddin.

Yawar Altaf, from Srinagar, secured a rank of 2563 in the JEE advanced exam, the gateway to IITs. Yawar said he had been inclined towards Physics since Class 8 and had been preparing for IIT entrance examinations for past 2-3 years. “I am extremely happy that I will be able to pursue physics at one of the IITs. I am thankful to my parents and mentors who supported me and counselled me at every step. Had it not been for my mentors at RISE, it would have been extremely difficult for me to prepare for this examination,” he said.

“Yawar was hand-picked by RiSE team in 2015 when he topped the class XIth category of the first edition of RiSE talent search examination. Over the past three years, Yawar has consistently worked hard in the pursuit of his ambitions. It’s only because of his dedication and trust in us that he achieved this feat. I wish him all the very best for his enriching professional and academic journey at IIT”, said Imbesat Ahmad, of team RISE.

Additionally, Yawar has an admission offer from King’s College, London.

Another student, Raja Fida, from Awantipora, will also make it to IIT after securing a rank of 8,500. “I am relieved that I got a rank which will ensure that I study at an IIT, which was always my dream. Based on my rank, I am looking forward to pursuing civil engineering from IIT Dhanbad. I would want to thank my parents and teachers for their unending support throughout my preparation,” he said.

Mehrajuddin, from Srinagar, who secured a category rank of 38, is also one of the students from RISE who made it to IITs this year.

Additionally, two students from RISE, Huzaib-ul-Hassan and Muhtashim Rafiqi secured admissions to the prestigious BITS Pilani. While Huzaib aced the BITSAT examination, entrance examination to BITS Pilani, Muhtashim secured a direct admission by being the state topper of class 12th JKBOSE examinations.

Salman Shahid of team RISE said, “It’s encouraging to see our students achieve such results despite their difficult circumstances. Their results will inspire greater hope among the student community. I wish stakeholders of education in Kashmir take notice of such results and take the necessary steps to ensure that JEE Advanced and BITSAT have at least one examination centre in Kashmir. Currently, students have to travel to Jammu and Delhi for these examinations. Such a step will ensure greater participation and better results in the long term.”

RISE, a Srinagar-based institute, has been counselling and preparing students for college admissions since 2012. RISE has generated unprecedented success over the years in the form of admissions at Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, IITs, BITS, etc.
