Chandramukhi, the very first transgender to contest elections for the seat of MLA from Goshamahal constituency has been missing since today morning. She was in contact with friends and other party members of BLF (Bahujana Left Front) till 8 am over phone. After that her phone is switched off and there is no trace of Chandramukhi, who lives alone in Indranagar, Hyderabad.
Chandramukhi, encouraged by various political parties like CPI (M), MBT, Lokshattha, other social organisations, friends and well wishers from the trans community, had filed her nomination to fight the elections from BLF because she felt strongly that there should be a representative from their community also in the assembly as the transgender community has been neglected from a very long time. And, she had disclosed in conversation with TwoCircles.net that nobody really bothers to raise the concerns of the trans community.
But her motive is not just upliftment of the trans community but also of the many families from the constituency where she was contesting from, who are below poverty line, she said.
Though pitched against a powerful BJP leader, Raja Singh, Chandramukhi was confident that she had a strong chance because in the last five years, the MLA had hardly done any development work, she pointed out. She wanted to change all that and work towards the upliftment of all the poor sections.
The reason behind Chandramukhi’s confidence was the warm reception from the residents of Goshamahal, who not only appreciated the fact that someone from the trans community was contesting but they also believed that transgender persons are selfless and have no hidden motives.
But for the last 10 hours, Chandramukhi has been missing and all her friends and well-wishers have tried all possible places to search for her. A complaint has been filed with the PS at Banjara Hills. The police are investigating the case.
