IUML to challenge CAB in Supreme Court

A day after the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha, the Indian Union Muslim League said it will file a writ petition challenging in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which is now awaiting presidential assent, allows a way for Indian citizenship to non-Muslim minority refugees who faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh.

 

Malappuram IUML MP PK Kunhalikutty said the legislation was against the basic principles of the Constitution. IUML leaders met Congress leader Kapil Sibal who will be representing the party.
