Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Minister Mukut Bihari Verma, in a press conference in Bahraich, while talking about the issue of Ram Mandir said, “The Supreme Court is ours, the judiciary, the country and the temple are ours”.

The Supreme Court bench took a serious note of this statement and deprecated the same on Thursday. Chief justice of India Gogoi who is heading the bench said, “We deprecate such statements. This should not be happening in the country. Both sides are free to put their arguments before court without any fear.”

Senior advocate Rajeev Dhawan, appearing for the Muslims on the Babri Masjid-Ram Mandir issue, who was threatened by some persons from the right-winged groups, brought this matter to the notice of the court saying that such statements created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation making it difficult for them to carry on with the court proceedings.
He also mentioned that even his clerk has been issued a threat because Dhawan, being a Hindu, is fighting on behalf of Muslims.

The case is being heard on a day to day basis by the bench comprising 5 judges.
Dhawan had pleaded that day to day hearing is difficult as there is hardly any time to prepare for the arguments and the apex court has agreed to consider his request.
