On January 10, a Dalit youth named Shrawan Meghwal was brutally humiliated in public and assaulted in the vicinity of the Gudamalani police station in the Barmer district of Rajasthan. Meghwal was brutally assaulted and tied upside down from a tree by a group of locals who accused him of bike theft.
Social media users have widely condemned the horrific conduct after seeing a video of Meghwal sobbing and begging for forgiveness.
According to a senior police officer, a case was filed under the SC/ST Act, 1989 against five or six individuals. Police reported three arrests on Saturday.
Few days ago, there was a theft at the Gudamalani police station area’s Kharwa Gram Panchayat. People beat him up because they thought he was the criminal. At first, the locals beat him with rods and tied him with a rope. They punched and kicked him and hung him upside down from a tree when he refused to confess his crime.
All the accused belong to the OBC community. On Monday, the accused will appear in court.
The case is presently being investigated, the officer stated.
