Lucknow : A suspected activist of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who was allegedly involved in the serial bombings in Jaipur and Ahmedabad, was arrested here Monday, police said.
A joint team of Rajasthan police and the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh police arrested the man, identified as Shahbaz, from the Aminabad locality of the city at around 2.30 p.m.
“The Jaipur police team reached here today in search of Shahbaz, along with an arrest warrant, and contacted the UP police,” said a statement from the office of the director general of police here.
Shahbaz is a native of Bhadohi district in Uttar Pradesh. Rajasthan police were searching for him in connection with the Jaipur blast, the statement added.
“He is suspected to be an active SIMI member as well as to be hand in glove with those involved in the Ahmedabad serial blasts,” a police official of the ATS told IANS.
Shahbaz was taken to the court of the chief judicial magistrate here and sent to Jaipur on transit remand.
