'She [Hasina] has expressed her apprehension that she may not get justice…she also fears that an in-camera trial might be arranged,' her counsel Abdul Matin Khasru told media after visiting her Friday.

The authorities have allowed Khasru, a member of the panel of counsels, to legally represent Hasina, and this was his first meeting with her since she was arrested in a pre-dawn raid on her residence last Monday.

Government officials were present in the room during their meeting, New Age quoted Khasru as saying.

"I am not a criminal, so there was no need of deploying such a large number of law enforcers there. If the government had asked, I would have surrendered to the court, I am not fleeing the country," Hasina reportedly told Khasru.

Khasru, law minister during the time Hasina was prime minister, said that during the half-hour meeting Hasina repeatedly told him that the due process of law might not be followed in her case.

She urged her supporters to stay calm and pray for her, saying she was innocent and "truth will prevail".

The detained Awami League chief accused the government of abusing power, influencing the court and filing 'false' cases against her.

She claimed that jailing her was a ploy to destroy her political career.

Khasru quoted Hasina as saying that the plaintiffs of the cases filed against Hasina had gone missing or were detained by law enforcing agencies before the cases were filed.

Hasina has been held on charge of extorting money from a businessman before clearing his project when she was in office. The case is supposed to have taken place eight years ago, and Hasina claims that the law does not allow old cases to be pursued.

There are two more cases of extortion and a murder charge against Hasina.
