“Taking into consideration the stable clinical condition of Basu, the 10-member medical board Tuesday morning decided to release him from the hospital by evening as per his convenience,” said AMRI Hospital’s vice-president S. Upadhyay.

“However, Basu will be under domiciliary care under a team of doctors comprising of neurologist, cardiologist and geriatrician, who will regularly supervise and monitor his health at his residence,” Upadhyay added.

Basu underwent an MRI scan of the brain Monday that confirmed the findings of the CT scan done earlier, and revealed there was no appreciable change in the blood clot in his head.

The 94-year-old leader suffered “internal haemorrhage in the head” after he fell in the bathroom of his Salt Lake home early Sep 5.

He underwent a CT scan a day after his fall and was advised hospitalisation. He received stitches on his forehead. A second CT scan was done on him last week.

Basu was the West Bengal chief minister from 1977 to 2000.
