Bangladesh on high alert after blasts

By DPA, Dhaka : Security forces were on high alert across Bangladesh Tuesday after an apparently orchestrated bomb attack was carried out by suspected Islamic militants, officials said.

The blasts rocked the capital Dhaka and two other cities, leaving several people injured.

An unknown militant outfit, Jawaid-al Queda, claimed responsibility for the blasts.

The three explosions occurred at the rail stations in Dhaka, the southern port of Chittagong and the northeastern city of Sylhet.

Police said the attacks were carried out almost at the same time during the morning rush hour. The serial blasts spread panic among train commuters.

Casualty details were sketchy, but at least one of the injured was said to be in critical condition.
