A heavy downpour across the sprawling state over the weekend along with the release of excess water from Nepal-fed rivers has affected Barabanki, over 25 km from Lucknow.

“Housing and Irrigation Minister Nassemuddin Siddiqui, who inspected the flood-hit areas here Wednesday, directed us to provide the financial assistance of Rs.11 crore and 39 lakh at the earliest,” district magistrate R. Nair told IANS.

The floods in the district have affected about 400,000 people. Three people have been reported killed in the flood, he added.
