Two Hizb militants, soldier killed in Kashmir gun battle

Srinagar : Two militants of the Hizbul Mujaheedin (HM) outfit and a soldier were killed in two separate gun battles in south Kashmir Monday.

Police said troops of the anti-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in a joint operation with 163 battalion Territorial Army (TA) and Special Operations Group killed two Hizb militants at Mundur village near Tral town in Pulwama district, 50 km from here, Monday afternoon.

"Security forces surrounded Mundur village for searches on specific information about the presence of militants," a defence spokesman here said.

"In the gunbattle that ensued, two terrorists were killed," a spokesman of army's 15 Corps said.

In another incident, a patrol party of 3 Rashtriya Rifles was ambushed by militants near village Dadu Marhama, in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, early Monday leaving a rifleman, Ramesh Kumar, dead.

Another soldier was wounded.

"The terrorists managed to escape under the cover of darkness," he added.
