Suicide attack kills 6, injures 17 others in S Afghanistan

Kabul : A suicide bomber exploded himself near the patrolling Afghan police vehicles Sunday evening in southern Afghan province of Kandahar leaving six people dead and 17 others wounded, a police official said.

Matiwullah Khan, provincial police chief told Xinhua that it occurred at around 06:00 p.m. local time (GMT 1230) when a suicide bomber came by a motorbike then exploded himself up near police vehicles patrolling in the center of Spin Boldak district killing three policemen and three civilians on the spot.

“Two police vehicles were completely damaged,” he said, adding “five more policemen and 12 civilians were injured in the blast.”

Meanwhile, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, the purported Taliban spokesman took the responsibility for the bloody attack by saying that one Taliban fighter carried out the suicide bombing killing and wounding over 12 policemen.

Earlier the day, Taliban militants shot dead a female senior police official Malalai Kakar in front of her house in Kandahar city, capital of Kandahar province.

Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed over 4,000 people’s lives so far this year.
