Russian foreign minister arrives in India on a day-long visit

New Delhi : The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergey Lavrov will be visiting India on 20 October 2008.

Lavrov will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee. The two Ministers are expected to review bilateral relations in diverse spheres and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.

A Protocol on holding regular consultations between the Ministry of External Affairs of India and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation during 2009-2010 is expected to be signed during the visit, said a statement issued here by the External Affairs Ministry.

External Affairs Minister and the Russian Foreign Minister last met each other in New York on 28 September 2008 on the sidelines of the 63rd UNGA meeting.

External Affairs Minister had last visited Russia in May 2008.

The Russian Foreign Minister paid his last visit to India in February 2007.

This will be the first high-level meeting between the two countries after India and the US inked a landmark civil nuclear cooperation accord.
