“I am very happy Ganguly is doing so well. He still has two more matches to go,” Srikkanth said here Thursday. “I will be very happy if he gets centuries in the next two matches and goes out on a big high,” he said.

Srikkanth’s comments come after Ganguly scored his 16th Test hundred in the second Test of the ongoing four-Test series against Australia in Mohali, which India won by 320 runs this week.

India’s most successful cricket captain had announced his retirement from the international cricket after the series against Australia.

“He (Ganguly) has that youthful passion, he is playing cricket the same way,” Srikkanth said.

“He is a great team man and is always there to help the team.”

Coming to India’s massive victory over Australia in Mohali, the chief of selectors said the Indians played the game with aggression akin to the Australians.

“They played like the Australians – aggressive cricket – from the first day in Mohali,” he said.

“It is an extraordinary team effort and is reminiscent of the 1983 World Cup.”

Srikkanth is in Dubai for the ‘Legends of Lords’ event celebrating the silver jubilee of India’s 1983 World Cup victory.

He, along with all other members of that champion side, is being felicitated at a special function here.
