In an internal communication to his department, superintendent of police (CID/special branch) Atmaram Deshpande has asked for more information about a villa, placed on rent on an online portal, by the German researcher-mother.

“Please enquire with the Foreigners Branch whether the lady is on a business visa and whether she can undertake business of real estate or rental or whatever,” reads Deshpande’s note to the officers of his department.

A copy of the communiqué, which includes a photocopy of the ad placed by the German lady on the real-estate portal, is in the possession of IANS.

The piece of real estate, referred to in the note, is a three-bedroom house which the researcher puts out on rent for five months every year for approximately 2,000-3,000 euros per month.

“I have nothing to do with the enquiry conducted by the Calangute police,” Deshpande told IANS.

Refusing to comment any further on the issue, Deshpande said that the special branch was not conducting any enquiry related to the German mother.

According to the victim’s lawyer, the police instead of investigating the case have been breathing down the German mother’s neck.

“She has been asked to give details of her daily activities, her business details, source of income and vehicles purchased in Goa. These things are not relevant to the case,” advocate Aires Rodrigues told reporters recently.

The German mother had filed a police complaint this month accusing Education Minister Atanasio Monserrate’s son Rohit and Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao’s nephew Warren of raping her 14-year-old daughter.
