Srinagar : A top Hizbul-Mujahedin operative escaped from a court premises in south Kashmir Tuesday after unidentified gunmen opened fire at his police escort, officials said.
Police said Rias Kachru, a district commander of the militant outfit, had been arrested last year. He had been taken to a court in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district by a team of policemen.
“Unidentified gunmen shot at the police escort inside the court compound, injuring a policemen critically. In the melee, Rais managed to escape in his handcuffs,” a police official said. “A massive manhunt has been launched to arrest him.”
