Jammu : Three militants attempting to inflitrate into the Indian side across the Line of Control (LoC) were killed by the army in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir Saturday, a defence official said here.
The brigadier general staff (BGS) of 16 corps, Brig. Gurdeep Singh said the army spotted a group of militants attempting to cross the LoC through Saujian in Poonch district Saturday morning.
“Three militants were killed in the encounter (shoot out) while one soldier sustained minor ankle injury,” Singh said.
The gun battle took place 200 meters inside the Indian territory, he added.
The officer said that the army is conducting search operation for a fourth militant suspected to be part of the group.
“The identification of the infiltrators will be done once the operation concludes, but they all are from Lashkar-e-Toiba (LET) outfit,” he added.
The army and security forces are on a high alert to prevent any infiltration attempt or terror strikes by the militants ahead of the seven-phased assembly elections in the state starting Nov 17.
