Yogi, 73, who was seeking re-election for the third time from the seat, committed suicide early Sunday at his residence, according to police.

Delhi’s Joint Chief Electoral Officer Uday Baxi said the poll will now not take place in the Rajinder Nagar constituency on Nov 29 when the rest of Delhi votes to elect its new 70-member assembly.

“Since the election process is already on in Delhi, the poll cannot take place as scheduled in the Rajinder Nagar assembly constituency following the death of one of the candidates (Yogi),” Baxi told IANS.

According to police officials, Yogi was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his first-floor room at around 7 a.m. by his wife.
