New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia has complained with the Election Commission of India against the Bharatiya Janata Party for the party’s media advertisement which says the university spent its funds in providing legal aid to Delhi terror blast suspects.
Jamia Vice-Chancellor Prof Mushirul Hasan has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami. The letter referring to the BJP election advertisement in newspapers says: “The item referring to the Jamia Millia Islamia is based on false information. It is a deliberate distortion of facts. The Jamia Millia Islamia has not spent a single paisa from its resources on the two students implicated in the Batla House incident.”
The VC has also sent the letter to R P Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Sunil Kumar, Joint Secretary of the same ministry.
After the September 19 Batla House encounter some youths were picked by ATS from Jamia Nagar area in connection with the Delhi serial bombings. Two of them are Jamia students. The university had announced that it would extend legal aid to its students. For this two committees were formed which collected donations. Some donation boxes were also put outside some mosques in the vicinity on the day of Eid. Many people were seen donating.
