New Delhi : The Delhi Police are on a high tech path as close circuit television camera (CCTV) came to their aid in tracking and arresting an alleged cheat in the national capital.
Salman, was arrested Saturday from his Sadar Bazar residence in north Delhi for allegedly duping people by exchanging their genuine currency notes for fake ones. His accomplice Ishaq, however, managed to flee, police said.
The accused was arrested after one Deepak Sharma alleged in his complaint that two people on a scooter at Sadar Bazar police station Road approached him and offered to help him by exchanging his currency notes in small denomination for bills in higher denomination.
When Sharma agreed, they took from him currency notes worth Rs. 26,500 and gave him a neatly wrapped bundle of what they said currency notes of the same value in higher denomination.
After the twosome sped away, Sharma opened the bundle to see that it consisted of a sheaf of plain papers cut to the size of currency notes, police said.
"After examining footage from a CCTV, affixed near the spot, the accused were identified and their movement was tracked. We arrested one person while the other managed to escape," Deputy Commissioner of Police Divesh Srivastva Said.
