Islamabad : In an ongoing operation in a Pakistani border tribal agency, security forces claimed killing more than twenty-five militants and wounding several others, while security around diplomats was beefed up in the northern provincial capital.
Security forces continued bombing militants’ sanctuaries in several areas of Bajaur tribal agency on Monday, security sources told KUNA.
They said that in the latest air-strikes, more than twenty-five militants were killed and several were wounded. Sources anticipated rise in the death toll as the operation continues.
Security around diplomats was meanwhile beefed up in Peshawar, the capital of the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), after reports of possible terrorist threats, said police sources.
Two Afghan diplomats of the Afghan Consulate and an Iranian diplomat were kidnapped by suspected militants in Peshawar this month and their whereabouts are still unknown.
In a related incident, a female councilor and a local leader of the ruling party were gunned down in northern Sawat valley.
According to media reports, a female councilor, Bakht Zeba, was traveling in her private vehicle in Mangora area of Sawat valley when unknown armed motorcyclists shot her to death.
A local Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, Siraj Ahmed Khan, was coming out of a mosque when he was also gunned down, said reports.
