“Agitated over the killing of BSP leader Bismillah Khan, his supporters targetted public and private vehicles in different parts of Ranikpur village in the Faizabad district,” deputy superintendent of police V.P. Singh told IANS on phone.

Sensing more trouble, additional security, including the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), has been deployed in the village, he added.

Faizabad is some 250 kms from Lucknow.

According to police, no one was injured in the series of violent protests in the village and its nearby areas.

“Khan was shot dead by three motorcycle-borne miscreants at a market place in Ranikpur village,” said Singh.

The reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained but police suspected it to be the fallout of a political rivalry.
