New Delhi : P. Chidambaram, who took charge of the home ministry Monday after Shivraj Patil quit in the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks, assured that the government would respond with “determination” to threats posed to national security and sought the support of the people.
“I want to assure the people of India on behalf of the government that we will respond with determination and resolve the threats posed to the Indian nation,” Chidambaram, who stepped down as finance minister Sunday to take over his new charge, told reporters here.
“But I need the help and support of the people of India, state governments and organisations. With their help and support I will be able to discharge the duties entrusted by the prime minister,” he added.
Shivraj Patil Sunday resigned as home minister after the end of the 60-hour terror nightmare in Mumbai that left at least 183 dead.
