Baghdad : At least fifteen people were killed when a suicide bomber blew his explosives-laden car in central Baghdad's Karradah neighbourhood Wednesday, an official source said.
Up to 20 people were also wounded in Karradah after the car was blown up at about 10:30 a.m. near al-Hurriyah Square, the source said. The blast damaged several nearby cars and buildings.
Officials said the target of the suicide bomber, who detonated the car after driving past a security checkpoint, was not immediately clear.
Iraqi security forces cordoned off the scene of the incident.
Violence continues on Baghdad streets despite a more-than-five-month US and Iraqi security plan aiming at putting it under control.
