Brussels : European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pottering Wednesday condemned the terror attacks in Mumbai and extended his sympathy to the families of the victims who had lost their lives and those who were seriously injured, EuAsiaNews reported.
At least 183 people, including 22 foreign nationals, were killed and more than 300 injured Nov 26 when terrorists attacked several places in Mumbai over 60 hours.
“Today we are all Indians. Terrorism is a direct attack on freedom, human rights and democracy. Terrorism is an attempt to use blind violence to destroy our values,” he said at the opening session of the 785-member House in Brussels.
“At a time of events like this, citizens of Mumbai can turn to any member of the EU (European Union)”, he said. Noting that the European Parliament Committee on International Trade was present in Mumbai at the time of the attacks, he expressed relief that all the participants of the delegation arrived back home safe.
