New Delhi : International training will be provided to 200 athletes to prepare them for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The sports ministry in consultation with the Amateur Athletics Federation of India (AAFI) Thursday approved the names of the 200 athletes — 116 men and 84 women. Names of 38 coaches were also approved and the AAFI has been directed to look for a foreign coach, a sports ministry statement said.
The Steering Committee of the ministry has also approved a physiotherapist, two masseurs and masseuses each. The committee has asked AAFI to submit the panel of names for remaining support personnel at the earliest.
The committee has also directed AAFI to prepare an annual calendar for competition and training for 305 days in consultation with the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
National Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala, SAI Centre Bangalore and SAI Centre Kolkata have been named as centres for imparting training to the athletes.
