New Delhi : As the Congress leadership rejoiced over its performance in Delhi, Rajasthan and Mizoram, Congress spokesperson M. Veerappa Moily Monday did not rule out the possibility of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government going for an early parliamentary elections that are otherwise due in April 2009.
Moily said: “We would deliberate on the issue of early elections. It could even be in February (2009). Everything is possible in politics.”
“We have done very well in these assembly polls. Even in Madhya Pradesh, our share has improved significantly. In Delhi our performance is astounding,” he added.
“In the wake of the positive outcome of the assembly polls, the issue of going for an early general elections is expected to be discussed in next few days,” a Congress source said.
“We have done much better than what we expected. It appears that the Congress graph is on upswing, though it would be too early to read too much in these results as in the last two general elections parties which fared well in assembly polls preceding the general elections lost power at the centre,” said a senior Congress leader.
