Chennai : England were 229 for five at stumps on the opening day of the first cricket Test against India at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here Thursday.
Andrew Strauss scored 123 while Alaistar Cook made 52. Zaheer Khan (2-36) and Harbhajan Singh (2-67) were the wicket-takers for India.
Andrew Flintoff (18) and night watchman James Anderson (2) were at crease when stumps were drawn.
