Jakarta : Eleven Indonesian crewmembers of a Malaysian tug boat have been taken hostage by Somali pirates, Indonesian foreign ministry said Friday.
Spokesman of the ministry Teuku Faizahsyah said the eleven people were working in Yemeni waters when they were taken hostage Dec 16.
“All eleven crew of the boat were Indonesian people and were taken hostage… in the waters of Yemen and brought to Somalian waters,” he said.
Effort to release them have been under way in coordination with the Malaysian government, he added.
