Bangladesh: necessary measures taken to hold fair poll, CA tells c’wealth observer team

Dhaka, Bangladesh : Chief Adviser of Bangladesh caretaker government Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed today said his government has made all necessary preparations for holding a free, fair and credible election tomorrow.

“From the very beginning of assuming the office, I have been advocating for holding a free, fair and credible election and that election is going to be held tomorrow,” he said adding that his government has already made all necessary preparations to
this end.

The Chief Adviser said this when the three-member visiting Commonwealth election observer team for Bangladesh parliament election led by Cassem Uteem paid a courtesy call on him at his office here this morning.

Dr Fakhruddin said he made a promise to hold a free, fair and credible election and now the election is going to be held in a congenial atmosphere as desired by people of the country.

During the meeting, the Chief Adviser listed different reform measurers, including electoral rules and regulations, and code of conduct undertaken by the government, said Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Syed Fahim Munaim in his press briefing after the meeting.

The press secretary said the Chief Adviser told the Commonwealth election observer team that manners of campaign and other things have changed which the people are taking positively.

Dr Fakhruddin said the Election Commission (EC) is fully ready to hold the tomorrow’s election in a free, fair and credible manner and the government is extending allout cooperation to the EC.

Welcoming the Commonwealth election observer team in the country, the Chief Adviser said they have come at a good time to see the final phase of transition to democracy.

Cassem Uteem expressed happiness over withdrawal of the state of emergency and hoped that the election would be held in a good atmosphere.

He said they would observe the tomorrow’s election maintaining the highest level of objectivity and transparency and would submit an interim report on the polls.
