“An inspector, two constables, a home guard and three others have been accused of killing a youth,” Jaluan district police chief G.P. Kannaujia told IANS on phone.

“Initiating an inquiry into the case today (Friday), we have directed the policemen and the home guard not to perform their duties till the completion of the inquiry,” he added.

According to the police, a woman was Tuesday injured after being hit by a truck in Dakur locality in Jalaun, about 250 km from Lucknow.

Relatives of the woman, identified as Sampat Devi, asked policemen at the spot to take action against the truck driver.

However, the policemen and the home guard allegedly began verbally abusing Devi and her relatives. Later, the transporters and the policemen beat them up.

Devi’s nephew, Yogendra Singh, was critically injured in the violence and died while being taken to hospital.

“Till now, no arrest has been made in connection with the incident. The transporters, who are accused in the case are at large,” Kannaujia said.
