Shlomo Cohen and his staff were expelled Tuesday in a protest over the deaths caused by Israeli military offensives in Gaza, the report said.

“Venezuela has decided to expel Israel’s ambassador and part of the personnel at their embassy here,” the report quoted a communique of the foreign ministry as saying.

On Dec 27, Israel launched military operations on Gaza in response to the rocket attacks by Hamas-led militant groups from the salient.

According to reports, more than 600 people were killed and 2,700 others wounded in the 11-day conflict.

Tel Aviv says the aim is to stop Hamas militants from firing rockets at southern Israel.
